We only have so much capacity. I once heard a mother talk about only being able to fit so much on our plate, and that when it’s full, we have to take something off.
Postpartum, my capacity for anything outside of my home is very low. Add in depression or anxiety, and news that doesn’t affect my daily life is just too much.
Whether you’re a new mom or just overwhelmed by floods of information or the heaviness of news, you’re free to take something off of your plate. Get off of social media. Turn down the news.

It doesn’t have to be for forever. I unsubscribe from all news emails and deactivate social media for the first month postpartum. I’m more fragile hormonally but also am spending lots of time sitting and nursing a baby and easily get sucked into browsing and end up overwhelmed and despairing or fearful about things that don’t intersect with my life.
We do need to be aware of what’s going on in the world, but in certain seasons it can be a good and necessary thing to simply turn down the noise for a while. It’s ok if you “miss out” for a while. You’re free to take things off of your plate.
